Tom of Cincinnati, OH writes… A Gem

This is a wonderful, unique hotel. We picked it because we wanted to get away from the chain hotels, and just a little ways off I-70. This was our second visit. Every room has interesting features. (We got a tour.) Our room was very clean and the bed comfortable, and the ambience magnificent--wood floors, wood shutters, antique tables, high ceilings. Since the hotel is right on the Missouri river, we walked across the bridge looking at the water below. The hotel has a classy little bar and dining area, and there are lots of other dining options within walking distance. If you are looking for an interesting, freshly remolded, classic hotel, in an historic town, this place is a gem.

I hadn't stayed at the Hotel Frederick for over 50 years. They have redone it so it's unrecognizable from the 60s...in a great way. I recommend you reserve on line so you can pick your own room as there are differences. They will provide you with an experience that takes you back in time --right down to leaving your key at the desk when you leave during your stay.

Besides the history and great location on the river near shops and, yes, the casino, the heart of this hotel is the staff. Every person was friendly, relaxed and helpful. But what I loved was to wake up every day to trays of freshly baked breads and cakes, baked overnight by the night auditor. What a lovely touch! There were eggs, cereals, juices, yogurt, bananas and coffee. Surely I am leaving something out! We didn't get to eat in the hotel restaurant because of events going on in the hotel, but were told everywhere it was the best place to eat in town. Don't worry about your room being upstairs. Never have I seen an elevator respond so quickly. I also enjoyed the fragrance of the homemade soaps that lightly permeated the room. I felt at home at the Frederick. I think I am homesick for Boonville.

We celebrated Family this year for our annual reunion at the Hotel Frederick in Boonville. We could not have asked for a more perfect place as it is spacious enough to accommodate the 30 of us, and the staff is more than gracious. This particular weekend was Heritage Days in Boonville. It was busy hosting events for several different reunions of high school classes--the classes of 47, 52, 77 all had functions. Yet the staff was able to handle them and our family.
For anyone who is familiar with the McMenamin's chain of hotels in the Pacific Northwest, the Fred is similar but with private bathrooms in each guest room. The hotel is historic and has been renovated nicely.
The staff was so friendly and courteous to us. The dining room was intimate yet large enough to accommodate us for our family luncheon. The chef checked on us frequently to make sure we were well fed and taken care of. He also handled our computer questions for getting into their wifi. The food was excellent! If you are in the area, do your best to stay in this wonderful hotel!

Since we're antique dealers, the Hotel Frederick was right up our alley and we were expecting it to be very cool, but what we weren't expecting was how comfortable it also was and all the little perks. Our room was great (and it wasn't their best room). The decor is unique and fun, the bath experience might be my favorite hotel bathroom ever, with giant oversized windows and old shutters that overlooked the square. Giant comfortable beds, plenty of linens, a fridge in the room, a cute downtown... a great bar space in the hotel and a restaurant (food not great, go with a cheesburger for a safe bet). Quite and enjoyable stay, we'd go back just to stay here again.

Friendly staff and comfortable, clean room. Enjoyed the rich historical feel of the hotel, and had an excellent meal in the restaurant. Highly recommend.

Linda of KANSAS CITY, MO writes… Best Boonville base for exploring Katy trail

My two friends and I stayed here one night on Memorial Day as part of a two day KATY trail adventure. This historic and charming hotel is right on the KATY trail at the edge of the historic downtown. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I especially appreciated the help offered to store our bikes as we came in off the trail, tired and hungry, late Memorial day. My only disappointment is that I did not realize The Fred restaurant would be closed that evening, a Monday. Next time. The staff recommended several more modest dining options within walking distance.

The wide hallways are decorated with art, antiques, nice rugs, and are wide enough for two women in hoop skirts to pass. Our room, number 12 on the third floor, has nice views of the bridge and the Missouri river at sunset. We took the stairs but there is an elevator. The room was large with tasteful eclectic decoration including antiques. The linens were quality and the hotel supplied bath robes. The continental breakfast was pretty standard and included the typical dry cereals, yogurts, juices, coffee, tea and boiled eggs. Along with this standard fare we could also choose from a homemade coffee cake and monkey bread. Both were Yummy. I will definitely stay here again when riding the KATY of visiting Boonville.

If you have bike problems or need a bike, Champion Bikes is conveniently located a couple blocks away from the Frederick on the trail at the old Boonville KATY depot.

After our first two-day bike ride experience on the Katy Trail, The Fred was an oasis! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was beautiful! The rain shower and Zum soap made us feel refreshed after a too long bike ride! We spent three hours in the lounge relaxing with drinks and various appetizers. Followed by a piece of homemade cheesecake before bed! All were delicious! The coffee cake the next morning was a perfect start to the day. We will definitely be back! We will request the same room, but next time we will be on motorcycles...not bicycles! A great bicycle or motorcycle destination!!
